DORA'S WORLD: The Unofficial DORA HALL Website

Paying loving tribute to the Queen of Solo Cups -- and of "vanity entertainment"!
DORA HALL was the undisputed queen of vanity entertainment. Dora's husband was Leo Hulseman, the founder of the immensely successful Solo Cup Company, and a man who was quite happy to delve into Solo's apparently bottomless coffers to finance dozens of record releases by his wife, all of which were given away free of charge with packages of plastic cups and plates during the 1960's. Not content with her "success" in the record business, in the 1970's and 1980's Dora branched out with several full-blown Solo-financed TV specials designed to make her a star--despite the fact that she was an elderly grandmother with limited show business experience.

Uncovering The Mystery Behind the Voice
On this website, we will gather information to help solve the curious riddle of Dora Hall and her very unorthodox career. Despite the fact that her record releases (on the Premore, Calamo, Reinbeau, Cozy, and Dot labels) were very well distributed throughout the '60s, '70s, and '80s, little has been written about Dora Hall, other than the sketchy information included in album liner notes, and Solo Cups has been strangely tight-lipped about their strange connection (and obligation) to her career. We were pleased to launch the initial version of this site on October 31, 2000: on what would have been Dora's 100TH BIRTHDAY.

Contact Us
Relatives and friends of Dora Hall, as well as those who worked with her on her TV specials and recordings, are encouraged to contact this website to share your reminiscences and tales. We hope to expand this site in the near future as more information comes in.

Comedian Neil Hamburger will present a tribute to Dora Hall including several of her TV specials shown on the big screen at the Silent Movie Theater in Los Angeles on July 3, 2011, at 2:30 pm.

Recently, the Spectropop website conducted an interview with the legendary songwriter/producer Al Hazan, in which Mr. Hazan discussed (among many other things) his work on Dora's earliest recording efforts. You can find this interview here. You can also find discographical information about the Dora Hall/Al Hazan recordings at Al's own website.

A rare video clip of a 1960's Dora Hall performance on the TV game show "I've Got A Secret" has turned up on The clip can be accessed by clicking here.

Here is an audio file (MP3) of the theme music to Dora's TV special "Once Upon A Tour" combined with her version of "Hang On Sloopy."

An interesting article in Forbes detailing the recent sale of SOLO CUPS out of the hands of the Hulseman family utilized this site as a reference source, and mentions Dora's musical career and the "Once Upon A Tour" TV special.
